Drive slow to the left hand side of the carriageway. Look for the space you want to use, check right mirror and signal left then move to right hand side of the carriageway on approach to the space. (Photo 1)

Steer quickly to the left (full lock) but try not to drive faster than a walking pace. The will require clutch control and very little use of the gas pedal. (Photo 3)

Slow drive forward until the car is fully in the space. As a guide the line running along the end of the spaces to your right (this may also be a wall, grass verge - as it is in Photo 5, drainage channel etc) cuts your door just below or around your wing mirror. (Photo 5)

Drop into first gear and start to turn left when your wing mirror passes the first line of the space. (Photo 2)

Once the car is between the lines and pointing straight, quickly straighten the wheels by undoing the full left lock. (Photo 4)
